Collection contains memorabilia from Professor Jonathan Elkus during his tenure (1957-1973) at Lehigh University in the Music Department as professor and director of the University’s Marching 97 Band. The collection contains correspondence, concert programs, music scores, newspaper clippings of critical reviews and photographs.

The collection includes the creative manuscripts for musical compositions made by Jonathan Elkus during his tenure in Lehigh’s Department of Music from 1957 to 1973.

Contains some manuscripts and published scores of music (and programs) of compositions performed at Lehigh during the 1960s and early 1970s by Professor Jonathan Elkus and his instrumental groups. Many of the items were autographed by the composers to Dr. Elkus, and all were donated by him to Lehigh.

Manuscripts and related documents for three operas by Elkus: Medea (1965), Helen in Egypt (1970), and The Mandarin (1967). For Helen in Egypt, includes programs and reviews, correspondence with librettist Jere Knight, and Knight's resume. For The Mandarin, includes synopsis and programs, and librettos by Richard Franko Goldman.
