Tay Bridge from S. (After Accident.) 1397. J.V. (on reverse is noted E. L. Roberts The Great Hickle Dedham – on www.zoopla.co.uk The Great Hickle is listed as a lodge on Coggeshall Road, Dedham, Colchester). (The photo shows the gap in the bridge where the “high girders” section was located.) (In 1887 a double track railroad bridge designed by B. Baker and John Fowler, the engineers responsible for the Firth of Forth railroad bridge, opened slightly to the west of the first Tay Bridge. This second Tay Bridge still stands today as well as a road bridge opened in 1966.) (The print measures18.5 x 29 cm albumen type print pasted onto a modern matte 27 x 33 cm as previously described).
