Scope and Contents
Chain Bridge over 200 yrs old Near Newburyport, Mass. (handwritten on back of 10.5 x 13.75 cm carte-de-visite style postcard. This bridge is a 225-foot, single span suspension bridge, which crosses the right branch of the Merrimack River. The date is uncertain but the original crossing on the site was a timber bridge from 1792, then in 1810 a wrought iron chain and again in 1909 another chain suspension bridge was built on the site which was renovated in 2003. )
