Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The contents of the collection were presented to Lehigh University in archive boxes with a “bookplate” of the autograph Arch Johnston written over the legs of a two-humped camel with Box # ____ and on the bottom of “bookplate” label is printed Janet Johnston Housenick and William D. Housenick Memorial Foundation as identifier on seven of the boxes, the remainder just have Archibald Johnston Papers handwritten on plain labels.

Three journals 13 x 10 x 1.75 cm black pebbled leather two-ring binder typed on red-edged white label “B. S. Co. Financial Data. Stocks & Bonds, Employees & Payrolls, Inventories Sales Income Orders. (contents of Bethlehem Steel information 1904 to 1911 [two folded sheets inserted among pages]) 17 x 11.5 x 1.75 cm black pebbled leather “Excelsior Diary 1911” in gold, red-edged pages (contains Johnston’s penciled notes for various travels and work for Bethlehem Steel) 17 x 10.5 x 1.5 cm red buckram diary gold printed title “A Line A Day” on red-edged white label hand written in red ink 1912 – 1913 1914 – 1915 -1916- (contents written in pencil relating Johnston travel and work for Bethlehem Steel)
