Two Log Books, 1919 to July 1, 1921
Scope and Contents
The contents of the collection were presented to Lehigh University in archive boxes with a “bookplate” of the autograph Arch Johnston written over the legs of a two-humped camel with Box # ____ and on the bottom of “bookplate” label is printed Janet Johnston Housenick and William D. Housenick Memorial Foundation as identifier on seven of the boxes, the remainder just have Archibald Johnston Papers handwritten on plain labels.

Two Log Books 14.5 x 11.5 x 1.75 cm red buckram with printed black ink “Log-book for Anchored-thoughts” and illustration of two anchors and ship at sea with yellowish label with red ink handprinted title “Household and General Expenses for 1919 also 1920. Entries are erratically made from January 1 to July 1, 1921 “Cash” with a special Note: - List of expenditures herein is recorded to ascertain living expenses of family household. Does not include Arch Jr. & Eliz. & Mrs. J’s personal expenditures or even all the general household (cash) expenditures. 14.5 x 12.5 x 2 cm red buckram binding same as above but red-edged label with typed title “1921 Prospective Engagements of A. Johnston” (Photo and biography of Henry S. Drinker on inside pages of log book, very interesting advertisements for Bethlehem businesses printed on green paper). Birthday book with red rectangular label, “Some of A. Johnston Family & Friends Birthdays” including three pages of family genealogy at end of volume – page “F” of genealogy notes “Entered up 38” (this is not in box 3 although so stated by Marquette).
