Scope and Contents
1874 Letter and List of Tools
1874 October 4 from L. F. Liscom (Boston) to Lemuel Liscom (Hinsdale).
(Letter expresses joy in his parents visit to Boston and disappointment in
not having his parents-in-law visit. He remarks about erecting a railroad bridge in West Springfield called the Shadlane Bridge. Again is the complaint about displeasure of working for the Bridge Company over insufficient salary. He states that his wife is very economical and all he could wish for in a wife. He doesn’t see any prospect of going into the bridge business for himself because he doesn’t have the capital to manage with success. He yearns for his own home and can’t seem to have one because of all the traveling erecting bridges. After he finishes erecting the bridge he is working on he will call the company to full settlement. Again is mentioned timber and depositing money in the Old Bank. Envelope has letterhead insignia of National Bridge and Iron Works).
No date from Tewksbury (Boston) to L. F. Liscom (Present). (A list of three pages, six sides “List of Tools in care L. F. Liscom.” Envelope has insignia of National Bridge & Iron Works. Boston)
