1931 May 15 from P.H. Morris (Colonial Office, London) to Beamish (typed note COPY “You will remember that we arrange the other day that you would call and see Dr. Drummond Shiels at the Colonial Office at 12 noon on Friday the 22nd May. Dr. Drummond Shiels now asks me to write to say that he would be glad if you would go to his room (No. 25) at the House of Commons at that time instead as he has to be over there then because Government business is being taken.” Typed on reverse of note from Beamish “Please pass to J de la Mothe.”) 1931 May 17 from H.H. Beamish (London) to Sinclair (typed letter on back of a flyer from Imperial Fascist League, May 8, 1931. The letter expresses Beamish disappointment on the subject of the Cameron evidence and Bown being “too busy” to see Joelson, say goodbye to J (Jerome de la Mothe) and thanks for being put up at Beamish’s club (Royal Societies Club) during Bown’s time in London. Beamish indicates he thinks he should give evidence at Joint Committee, Lady Eleanor Cole is giving evidence and hopes her evidence will swing things more to the RIGHT, as up to present most is to the LEFT – the implication being that the white settlers had no rights in East Africa at all. Beamish says he has an appointment with Dr. Drummond Shiels and is doing his best to privately instill the “necessary atmosphere.” Beamish says that he had a chat with Lord Lugard (Cameron was his secretary and both advocate education for the natives) and is very busy doing his best not to miss a session of the Joint Committee.
