 Item — Folder: MS0247.01.05, Item: 08
Identifier: MS0247.01.05.08

Scope and Contents

[No date but content follows previous letter] re: enclosed photocopies of pertinent letters re: tile making of John Gardner Low and a copy of Boston Evening Transcript, Monday, November 11, 1907 about Low’s tile artistry. The Girdler letter is possibly a carbon copy and describes that Hannah Gardner Low was a sister-in-law of Girdler’s great grandfather, John, who was the last of a line of sea captains sailing out of Marblehead, Mass. The captain sailed one of the first relief ships carrying food to starving Ireland. Jenny Girdler Belknap was Captain John’s daughter who married the rich Mrs. Belknap and moved to Indiana and brought her widowed mother and brother (Girdler’s grandfather) also to Indiana because of depression-hit Marblehead; steam was replacing sail. (The mentioned photocopies are not included with the letter)
