(The military pass is possibly from the hand of Jonas M. Withers who
fought at the second battle of Stones River (also called Murfreesboro). The
battle was fought December 31, 1862 to January 2, 1863 with the South
taking heavy casualities. Shortly before the battle, Brigadier General
Jonas Mitchell Withers became a Major General. He led the Second
Division of the Army of Tennessee (the reorganized Army of the
Mississippi) in the battle under General Braxton Bragg and Lt. General
Leonidas Polk).
