1911 May 12 from John E. Leibfried, Denver, Colo. to “Mother” Menefee (mother-in-law) “Dear “Mother” Menefee: This afternoon I have a few minutes free and as I have written Louise a few lines, I could not think of a better way of putting thru in writing to you. I dont know as there is so very much to report. Mr. Shy is in Denver and stopping at the Grant. I have had several little chats with him, he came up from New Mexico last Friday and said he expected to stay here a few days, he is selling some cattle. I guess his movements are rather uncertain as he does not know where he is going next.

Scope and Contents

Johnny Shatton was in here last Sunday, he had been to Colorado Springs to participate in a tract meet, went he was in there were fifty four entries and he finished third so I imagine his injuries of last fall were not very serious. The Grant is beginning to look like a new place, the management has been spending money ?, the parlor and the halls have been repapered and new carpets put down, and they tell me the ? is not yet, all the rooms are being cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, and they really are doing very well. Last morning the Dusinburys x I took Janice, Fay and Ada out to city park, it was the first time the girls had been out this year and they certainly had the time of their lives. I feel sorry for the kids, their mother is too busy to take them out very much x the father is too lazy I guess. I am glad Louise is announcing her engagement, its fine of Lillie to give her a party and I am sure all will have a good time. I want to tell you again that I intend to take the very best care of your “baby” and not to give her any cause to regret having cast her lot with mine; all my relatives are very much pleased x I know they will take Louise right in. Trusting that you & “father” Menefee are enjoying good health, I am Very sincerely yours John E. Leibfried.”
