Scope and Contents
Un-American committee group made a movie portraying a riot that they claimed to have been led and started by communists; People argued about the validity and exaggeration in the film and the propaganda displayed in the film; The Emergency Civil Liberties Committee protested against the film and Walter called them a communist front, to which they denied vehemently; James Roosevelt called for the Un-American Committee's funding to be cut to limit their influence; Walter writes specifically to Lehigh critics of the film Operation Abolition; FBI director J. Edgar Hoover confirmed/agreed with the Un-American Committee's claims that communist inspired the riot and that they were infiltrating at a fast rate; University students in Califronia raised a riot against the Un-American committee due to false imprionments of educators; Walter claimed, and wanted to probe, the Chicago Committee to defend the Bill of Rights was the a fornt for communist activities; Walter proposed security bill that would have had all National security agency workers investigated by the Un-American committee and if found suspect would have been fired immediately; Walter claimed two NSA clerks were "admitted" communist after they fled to Russia after being foun as "sexual deviates" (read: homosexual); Walter got 26 clerks fired after the homosexual couple fled; NSA and Department of defense bolstered security; Walter proposed bills that would have dismissed and disgraced any American citizen without due process and the Senate struck them all down as unconstitutional; AFL-CIO and Lindsay, John V. (John Vliet) denied security bills proposed by Walter in fear they have too many loopholes and could have been used unjustly; A passport bill denied passports to "reds" but they could have gotten a full hearing and appeal to defend themselves; A report on the the potential impeachment of chief justice Warren; Walter accused of harrassing and mistreating witness before, during, and after hearings; Witnesses at the riot in California rported statements that contradicted what the Un-American Committee had claimed to be the series events; Many who were imprisoned under the "contempt" of the court were released and another group were reindicted after having been set free; Black muslims called UnAmerican after asking for spaces to be set aside for them; Walter claimed leftists and other Americans calling for the ban of the committee are immoral and pose a threat to American security from the "reds"; Neonazi's found; Many private, subcomittees, and normal citizens pushed relentlessly to abolish the UnAmerican Activities Committee; Articles written about the parts and actions of the UnAmerican Activites committee; Walter used a technique labeled as "dry-lynching" which exposed a person as a potential communist even if the accusation was unfounded so as to ruin their reputation;
