Scope and Contents

*Almost the entire book is made up of newspaper clippings. Walter promoted his campaign for 16th term in House; Walter recieved continuous praise for Delaware River Basin Compact; Soviet Union posted nuclear missiles in Cuba which caused unrest and panic in America and Kennedy administration; Walter called to destroy pacificism in the face of Cuban missile post; Walter went around speaking at many democratic rallies; Walter and Kennedy admin hand in hand on most issues in congress such as Cuba and the GOP; Walter aimed to gain support of Bethlehem (PA.); Walter won by 16,623 votes and took on his 16th term in the House of representatives; Walter pushed for Tocks Island to be funded and the project to move forwad since he was elected; Dept. of Interior pushed for coal regions to be built; Walter challenged supreme court decision regarding citizens leaving the country to evade military duty; Winston Churchill was given honary American citizenship; Walter put forth a bill to revoke citizenship from war deserters, never passed; Walter proposed a bill that placed quotas on Irish potatoes thrpugh the establishment of acreage allotments; Walter proposed travel regulations (bans) duringtimes of emergency, related to the Cuban missile crisis; Many in the House of representatives pushed to name the Bear Creek Dam after Walter, eventually renamed in1963; Walter sought to ammend the Foreign Agents' Registration act to limit agents movements where they would be forced to report their comings and goings, monetary spending, and file statements with the attorney general; United States were worried over the Italian vote because of the communist leadership choices; Walter was diagnosed with Leukemia and hospitalized; Walter was designated as Alternate U.S representative for Intergovernmental Committee on European Migration; Walter died May 31, 1963 due to Leukemia.
