Scope and Contents

"A mash of newpaper clippings detailing different political events;The Pennsylvania Department of mines has called for the close of the mines to prevent gas formation pockets and explosions, this would be taking out a big industry in Pennsylvania and must be quickly replaced;Walter invites the National Council of Churches to testify against the Air force manual's claims allegedly backed claims that churches have been invaded by communists;Roosevelt calls on house to abolish the Un American activities committee with Walter Millis a member of the ACLU national board backing him-resolution urging abolition of the Un American activities committee was passed unanimously by the American civil liberties union;After California teachers and some college students were put on trial by the Un American activities committee at city hall , there was an anti-red probe riot of over 200 people, mostly students, causing $250,000 in damages. Committee members and police insist there were communist Archie Brown and Merrill Brodsky and Frank Wilkonson trying to whip people up into a frenzy;Easton and Nikita discuss soviet-american relations while senator of Washington calls for Eaton’s prosecution under logan act;Walter reveal secret testimony of Tisler saying for the Czech embassy he ran a red spy ring and that many, 45%, in the embassy were involved. Tisler would recruit Americans to give him information before defecting from the communist party;Eisenhower vetoes $251 million blight area aid bill which could have provided money to depressed industrial and rural areas with chronic unemployment, citing it will waste taxpayers money unless cut down; Former Czech ambassador, Karel Petrzelka, had the embassy pay Anton Krchmarek, an american communist for information on the American communist party; Dr. Uphaus went on a fellowship camping trip and suddenly was called upon by the committee to name people at the camp suspected of communism, when he refused, much like the Colored people association, he was imprisoned and kept there.The Board of Social and Economic Relations of the Methodist Church urged his release; H. Chandler Davis, a mathematician who studied Russian mathematical advancements also refused to cooperate in a red hearing and was subsequently imprisoned and denied parole. Other mathematicians protested his case but their appeals were dismissed without explanation; U.S U-2 spy plane shot down by Russia;Senator Sparkman is running for senator of Alabama against Calhoun and Cromelin with congressman Boggs supporting him; Walter goes to Rio de Janeiro as part of the international committee on European migration to see how European refugees were being handled and discovers that Brazilians think the Americans are snobbish and invasive; CSIDC brings the first industry to Panther valley, PA, Timber toys co.; New 300,000 armory built for lehighton, PA area; New post office to be constructed in summit hill PA;William Moran elected to become director of United steel-workers of America; Aquashicola dam for the Delaware River Basin proposed to be built will put the town Little Gap underwater due to flooding with Beltzville Dam for the Delaware River Bain was greatly opposed by the residents of Pohopoco valley and Carbon county; Walter was upset that Sharp rescinded his claim in the air force manual that communists had infiltrated the church. He claims the manual to be entirely true and will investigate the withdrawal; Defense secretary Thomas S. Gates orders a probe of military manuals after finding material entirely unrelated to military matters along with glaring inaccuracies; The Un American committee held a hearing in which Sharp said the content wasn’t the problem but the committee listing specific names of individuals. He would allow the manual to be reissued when names were removed. He doesn’t agree nor disagree with the red charges; The Air Force admits it messed up with the training manual for non-enlisted officers by not having it properly scrutinized and read thoroughly before publication; E&R leader Wagner challenges that the red probes are just a way for the government to undermine non-federal groups and cause fear and panic. He also said to consider where the support for the manual comes from, such as those who are anti-black, Jewish,Catholic, etc; NAACP was ruled to be able to keep list of members secret; Walter attacks NAACP secretary due to him criticizing his stand on civil rights legislation; The Un American activities committee financed travel expenses of repeating mail courier witness in which he obtains mail delivered and then publicly opens them claiming no one has gone through the bags yet; Walter fights back against news articles taking into account the way the Un american activities committee uses its funds to continue their investigations.A couple members of the Un American activities committee have been using the committee's funds to live a luxurious life such as Rep Morgan Moulder; 15th amendment filibuster implemented; U.S tried to get different countries to agree to an arm disbandment of nuclear, chemical, biological, and highly explosive warfare; Panamanian Minister Miguel Moreno felt as if the U.S wasn’t carrying out their part and giving the Panamians their promised benefits; Many articles detailing political issues at the time:Walter and Arens are financially and using their political power to support the draper project. A project which will ‘prove’ that african-americans are genetically inferior to white americans and should be removed from America ‘back’ to Africa, claims house of un american activities is paid for by racists; Political cartoon mocking Walter and the Un American activities committee and their defense of the AF manual; Political cartoon mocking the U.S congress bending to the will of the un american activities committee for every accusation; Political cartoon mocking the Un American committee using its funds for frivolous expenses; Magazine detailing Communism, chinese communes, and third term prohibition vs elective monarchy; Magazine detailing the tactics of communist spies; 8 photos of a Puerto Rican protest to the American government investigating communists in Puerto Rico; Mash of full newspaper detailing many different topics:Northampton county and Bethlehem voting count was much lower than anticipated with some candidates being ignored entirely by voters; Walter sees Pope and is commended on his work with the ICEM of rehabilitating displaced persons in Europe. He attends the XIIIth intergovernmental committee for European immigration council session as president of the committee to congratulate the millionth immigrant assisted by ICEM; Chief of VFW encourages allowing more refugees to enter the U.S. Walter has recently passed a bill that would admit about 5,000 refugees from Europe to the U.S, only european refugees.However these refugees would be ‘paroled’; The Supreme Court backs NAACP during the Little Rock integration incident; 3 newspapers in spanish detailing the communist puerto rico investigations; Woman named Mildred Blauvelt, a secret double agent, went undercover and investigated the communist workings in Puerto Rico and New York. She listed names and her experience with the identified communists; According to the U.S government communists propaganda was being sent to Puerto Rico, when they went to investigate Puerto Rican Independence party members made a protest against the U.S pushing their investigations onto the Puerto Ricans despite not being under the jurisdiction; The bombing of a private sugar mill by the U.S in Cuba has warranted an apology which Walter believes should not be given as it will be used as communist propaganda and that the government is not responsible for individual actions;
