1961 August 14 from Toohey , 1961
Scope and Contents
1961 August 14 from Toohey to Glick re: letter from H. S. Weatherholt, Vice President of Lehigh Valley Coal relating to the question of dividing lessors’ expenses as a form of arbitration. Telephone conversation with Pierce saying that a recent court decision in Carbon County where the court ordered the reduction of the assessed valuation of some coal lands by 85% with the statement that coal underground has no value as it cannot be mined at a profit. This is a situation that indicates the Packer Estate and Lehigh will lose arbitration on merchantable coal underground. Pierce will meet Humphrey to determine what coal is still available for strip mining.
