"Dear Mary …(Grandma explains family relationship of Sallie Fannie Grant to Sallie Fannie Reid of West Point, GA and the Grants, Slatons and Reid families) - "Mrs. Grant was one of the most accomplished women of Georgia. The company of soldiers that went to war in 1860 from West Point (GA) were know as the "Sallie Fannie Reid Guards" …your Grandpa used to practice law in The Supreme Court in Atlanta … it does no harm to let people know where you came from - and really it helps to know that you came from wealthy aristocratic people" … the Grants & Slatons (John M. Slaton married Sarah Frances Grant in 1898 who was the daughter of William Daniel Grant and Sallie Fannie [Sarah Frances Reid] Grant - during the Civil War Sallie Fannie Reid who was the daughter of the mayor (John Reid) of West Point totally funded a group of soldiers from West Point, GA thereby the name "Sallie Fannie Reid Guards" - John M. Slaton became Georgia's 60th governor ( he and his wife had no children so were very fond of Neel Reid who was about a 4th cousin…" (Grandma wants Mary to visit and see the Centennial Pagent)
