[O'Reilly indicates Bernard O'Reilly (?-1848) who was on a whaling ship as surgeon that sailed to the Davis Strait in 1817. He made observations of Norse settlements, Inuit natives of West Greenland, and composed a lexicon of the Eskimo {Esquimaus/Eskimaus) language, zoology, and the Northwest Passage. These observations were published in his book Greenland, the Adjacent Seas and the North-west Passage to the Pacific Ocean, illustrated in a voyage to Davis's Strait, during the summer of 1817.
