New Jersey at the time of the ratification of the CONSTITUTION from an original map in the Library of Congress at Washington. Issued by the United States Constitution Sesquicentennial Commission (heading). (upper left corner is illustration of trees, house, animal surrounding words: The Province of New Jersey Divided into East and West, commonly called The Jerseys. Second Edition with considerable improvements. Engraved & Published by Wm. Faden. Charing Cross. December 1 1778. This map has been drawn from a Survey made in 1769 by order of the Commissioners appointed to settle the partition Line between the Provinces of New York & New Jersey by Bernard Ratzer, Lieut't in the 60th Reg't and from another large Survey of the Northern Parts in the possession of the Eart of Dunmore by Gerard Banker. The whole regulated and ascertained by Astronomical observations. In this Second Edition great use has been made of several Military Surveys generously Communicated by Officers of the British Troops and of the Regiments of Hesse and Anspach. Astronomical Observations are included in a table lower right of map. Map printed in brown ink with New Jersey and its counties outlined in green, measures 66 x 51 cm, Province of Pennsylvania, The Three Lower Counties (Delaware), Delaware River and Bay, Staten and Long Island included on map, acquired Oct 1 1938 Lehigh University Library pink ink stamp.
