New-York at the time of the ratification of the CONSTITUTION from 1776 and 1787 originals in the Library of Congress at Washington Issued by the United States Constitution Sesquicentennial Commission (heading). (lower right corner words:) A Map of the Province of New- York Reduced from the large Drawing of that Province, Compiled from Actual Surveys by the Order of His Excellency William Tryon, Esq. Captain General & Governor of the same By Claude Joseph Sauthier, to which is added New Jersey from the Topographical Observations of C. J. Sauthier & B. Ratzer. Engraved by William Faden (Successor to the late Mr. Thos. Jeffreys) 1776. [Inset shows New York in relationship to Lake Ontario] London Published according to Act of Parliment August 1st 1776 by Wm. Faden Corner of St. Martin's Lane, Charing Cross. The insert-map is a part of a French edition of the Lewis Evans map of Middle British Colonies published in Paris 1787. The longitudes are reckoned from Philadelphia. (Map has red outlines around New York, brown ink on ivory paper measures 66 x 51 cm, pink ink stamp Lehigh University Library Oct 1938.
