Shields 1924, The Geographical Journal, May 1924, Scale 1:500,000, published by the Royal Geographic Society Gold Coast Shields. Map measures 47 x 31.5 cm, blue and black ink on fragile ivory paper, purple ink stamp Lehigh University Library Aug 1952, appears map taken from a book. (The British-held Gold Coast declared independence in 1957 and became Ghana). The Gold Coast was a British Colony on Gulf of Guinea from 1867 to 1957. In 1928 the governor was Sir Ranford Slater who encouraged surveys to be made of the Gold Coast regions).
