Farmersville Church Record Book

 Collection
Identifier: SC MS 0186

Scope and Contents

This record book contains notes in several handwritings regarding information for weddings, baptisms, funerals in the Bethlehem Township communities served by the Farmersville Church founded in 1846 as St. John’s Farmersville Church. It was a Union church originally with Lutheran and German Reformed congregations. Some of the notes are in German as well as English. The pastor most frequently noted is I. W. Bieber (Irwin W. Bieber). He was installed as pastor at the Farmersville Church in 1871 and served for 35 years.

The Farmersville Church has the current name of St. John’s Lutheran Church (8065 William Penn Highway, Easton, PA 18045) but is a Union Church containing two congregations: Lutheran and United Church of Christ. The United Church of Christ congregation resulted when the German Reformed denomination merged in the 1960s and became the UCC. The booklet lists many names of people, who they were related to, when they were born and locations where they were living such as Hecktown, Macungie, Bethlehem Township, and Farmersville. The information could be of great interest to people interested in genealogy. The small envelope that accompanied the booklet is addressed to: Books Unlimited. % Book Barn, (Mr. Messinger.) Tatamy, Pa. with return address of: The Bethlehem Globe-Times, 202 West Fourth Street, Bethlehem, PA., 18016. In red ink across face of envelope in handwriting is written Farmersville Church. Two postmarks on envelope are June 2, 1967 with a third noting the 100th Anniversary of the Bethlehem-Globe Times.
