Biographical / Historical
E. Bruce Kirkham attended Lehigh University and went on to receive a Ph.D. in American Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Kirkham then landed at Ball State University to teach English. There he started the Friends of the Bracken Library group (1975.)

Abstract
This collection contains personal letters exchanged between Bruce Kirkham and several faculty members of the Lehigh University English Department including Glenn J. Christensen, John A. Hertz, Victor M. Valenzuela, Dr. J. Burke Severs, and Ray L. Armstrong, all of whom offering personal advice and encouragement Dr. Kirkham. Also contained are letters with Lehigh University Library Directors Berry G. Richards and James D. Mack, friends of Dr. Kirkham. While at Ball State University, Kirkham had also been in contact with longtime friend Sam Toperoff, who received a Master’s degree in English from Lehigh.
