The material includes corrected typescripts of several of his books and his dissertation (later published as a book). Titles include Creative Approaches to the Teaching of English: Secondary, with chapters by Charles R. Duke, Jan A. Guffin, Robert E. Probst, R. W. Reising, Bertrand F. Richards, and R. Baird Shuman. Also two books published in "Twayne's United States Authors Series", Robert E. Sherwood and William Inge, both written by Shuman. Also included is a copy of Shuman's dissertation "Social Concepts in the Stage Plays of Clifford Odets" and another version of the same material written for publication as a book.

Biographical / Historical

R. Baird Shuman received his bachelor's degree from Lehigh University in 1951, his Master's degree in 1953, and his Ph.D. in English in 1961 from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He was professor of English at the University of Illinois. Shuman died on August 12, 2013.
