Scope and Contents
Donated by Lehigh alumnus Harvey Bassler, this is a collection of 144 maps of different areas of South America. They are arranged by Dewey Decimal number, are mostly from Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, and are in either Spanish or German.

Biographical / Historical
Bassler, a native of Pennsylvania, graduated from Albright College, Lehigh University and Johns Hopkins University, where he received a Ph.D. in geology in 1913. From 1920 to 1932 he worked for Standard Oil as chief geologist in Peru. As a sideline he collected animal and plant samples there for the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
