Biographical / Historical
Mr. Foreman was born October 16, 1922 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin a son of Paul and Clara (Gerlach) Foreman. Wesley had two siblings: Joyce and Carl Sr.. He graduated in 1946 from University of Wisconsin following World War II service in the U.S. Army. Upon induction into the Army, Mr. Foreman was assigned eventually to advanced training at Lehigh University in its Army Special Training Program July 12, 1943 through March 25, 1944. The students sent to Lehigh to participate in the program were housed in Price Hall but Drinker House was the center of the program’s activities. He was in a program that was involved in preparing men for what became known as the Manhattan Project. Upon graduation from the Lehigh AST program, he was sent to Camp Clairborne in Louisiana and served with Company D, the 333rd Infantry. Mr. Foreman never participated in the atomic bomb development that was known as the Manhattan Project. He was discharged from the Army in 1944 and finished his college education on the GI Bill in 1947. His civilian career began with the Lakeside Laboratories in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a control bacteriologist-chemist eventually becoming director and manager of quality control. Wesley worked briefly for 3M in 1965 and part time with Autotrol from 1984 to 1991 as key advisor in their commercial lab and chemical water treatment ventures. He retired in 1991. He and his first wife Wilma divorced sometime after 1965. They had two children: Daughter Nancy (Foreman) Kaufman and son Terry, who gave Lehigh this collection. In 1976 Wesley married a second time to Myra (Gross) Kamenetz, a school teacher. In 2001 they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. He died on March 6, 2013 in Milwaukee, WI.
