Biographical / Historical
George C. Izenour (1912–2007) was an American theater designer, acoustician, and innovator in stage lighting and mechanics. A graduate of the University of Minnesota and a pioneer in the field of theater technology, Izenour developed advanced lighting and stage-control systems that transformed performance spaces across the United States. His inventions, including the electronic dimmer, greatly improved lighting precision in theaters. Izenour authored several key texts on theater design and consulted on numerous performance venues worldwide, leaving a lasting impact on modern stagecraft.
