1877 April 18 (Marblehead) Priscilla relates she drags through the day, John goes to work in Salem but feels he has no one to work for and wishes he could just go to bed and not wake up, asks why couldn’t dear Alice be spared. Maria Knights death is another sad case (she miscarried) and left three small children. Rebecca’s house is rented again for the summer, the portraits are still there. Money seems like a present.

1877 June 18 (Marblehead) expresses disappointment that Jennie won’t visit and says she has so much to talk with her how the last think Alice did for John was iron his shirts, John cries over Alice, Priscilla dreams a lot about Alice. Had a letter from Hannah who visits sometime but Mary never. Thanks Jennie for the kind letter.

1878 October 24 (Marblehead) writes that Mr. B and Jennie visited, Cowell came with her. Asks why Cowell didn’t introduce his wife to Mr. & Mrs. B. Mrs. Reynolds came to see Jennie so Thomas Appleton said. Having very warm weather. Hasn’t heard from Hannah or Mary and Mary lives alone in a large house. One year since Mr. Turner died.

1878 November 30 (Marblehead) writes that she has house, plants, vegetables to care for and John so she won’t come and visit. Dreamed of Alice again. Mr. Courtis? died of heart trouble with his family around him. Tell Jennie the portraits are here – mother over the piano and father by the door. She is caring for neighbor’s bird. John will try to get some cats for Lew. Knitting mittens for the young Dorcas Society as they hold a fair before Christmas as well as a mat.
