The Bible was originally acquired by a Lehigh University professor, Charles Leander Doolittle and his first wife, as a family Christmas gift. Professor Doolittle recorded family events in this book: marriages, births and deaths. The Bible contains interleaved ephemera and slips documenting important dates for the family. It also contains a draft an early poem written by Charles’ daughter, the novelist and poet, Hilda Doolittle (also known as HD).
