Typography Scrapbook

Abstract

A scrapbook with assorted samples of typography initial alphabet fonts, head and tail piece ornamentation of wood or copper engraving for the printing press. Some of the samples represent illustrations appearing on Confederate currency but most examples represent Victorian embellishments.

Varsity and Intramural Sports Files

Abstract

Includes office files, correspondence, and lists of award winners from the Sports Office of Lehigh University from 1930-1980. Sports award winners are complete from 1939-1970. Flagpole Day Ceremony awards are complete from 1958-1977. Intramural files are primarily from the 1960s and 1970s. Also included is material from Car Rallyes, Turkey Trots, Emery Relay programs, and Beta Theta Pi Fraternity (Mr. Steckbeck was faculty advisor).

Ventilation Investigation Hudson River Vehicular Tunnel (Holland Tunnel)

Abstract

A detailed pioneering engineering report determining the ventilation criteria for an underwater vehicular tunnel which became known as the Holland Tunnel. At its time of opening in 1927 the Holland Tunnel was known as the “eighth wonder of the world.”

Walnut Street Bridge, Hellertown (Pa.)

Detailed drawings of the structural members of a historic cast-iron Pratt-truss bridge which the students of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Lehigh University used for refurbishing and reconstructing the bridge in a public park in nearby Hellertown, Pennsylvania.

Wax Lake Bridge Construction Photographs 1940-1941

Abstract A collection of construction photographs of a steel railroad bridge erected on a dry flat plain which eventually became a Mississippi River floodway channel. The channel beneath the bridge elements was dredged after the bridge was constructed. This construction procedure was in reverse of the usual building process.
