Henry Sylvester Jacoby Papers

Abstract

Henry S. Jacoby Papers contains diplomas and certificates he received, drawings and illustrations for some of his books, scrapbooks about Lehigh (1872-1877), typescripts of some of his publications, and correspondence to and from the American Railway Engineering Association. The correspondence is of special to any engineer interested in the work involved in formulating a textbook or the forensics of old bridges.

Abstract

This collection of correspondence and research papers deals with the research conducted by Dr. Herbert C. Brown and colleagues on the arcane argument on the “Norbornyl” question in chemistry. Among the chemistry colleagues is Professor John W. Larsen of Lehigh University. Dr. Brown was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1979 for his research on boron.

Hiram Sanborn Chamberlain Collection

Abstract

Small collection of material reflecting a senior student’s last year at Lehigh. Mr. Chamberlain graduated in 1903 with an Engineer of Mines degree. Collection contains a metal football recording the event of a 1902 Lehigh-Lafayette football game played in Easton with a score of 6-0 - a Lehigh win. The cast metal football records the names of the team members, winning score and the menu of the victory banquet.

Scope and Contents The collection contains estimates, proposals and designs for bridge projects in 19 New York towns, mostly in the vicinity of Syracuse, New York. The two folio volumes [one large, one smaller] are engineer’s bridge design notebooks most likely compiled in Syracuse, New York, c. 1871-1884 where the Howard Soule Jr. had his association; they consist of pencil sketches, entry notes and calculations with illustrations, estimates and costs.
