This collection of photographs records the careers of two Lehigh alumni in mining engineering and illustrate the diamond mining procedures in South Africa of the world’s most famous mining conglomerate – De Beers, from 1899 to 1905.
Photographs and blueprints of Washington State Highway Department: Bridges 1920 to 1931
Photographs and blueprints of highway bridges built in the 1920s as part of the State of Washington’s Public Works Department post World War I building program. Also some photographs of bridges built in California, apparently designed by Charles Andrew who was bridge engineer for California State Highway Department as well as Washington State Highway Department and Oregon.

Ventilation Investigation Hudson River Vehicular Tunnel (Holland Tunnel)
A detailed pioneering engineering report determining the ventilation criteria for an underwater vehicular tunnel which became known as the Holland Tunnel. At its time of opening in 1927 the Holland Tunnel was known as the “eighth wonder of the world.”

The materials in the scrapbooks are not arranged chronologically throughout: Vol. 1 1891-1937; Vol 2 1919-1937; Vol. 3 1916-1937, Vol. 4 1889-1939. William C. Bowie's career in scientific research in the theory of isostasy and its application to dynamics and structural geology is reflected in these scrapbooks.
