Abstract
This manuscript notebook includes survey data of a road to be built between Pottsville to Shamokin (then an Indian Territory) in 18th century. It also contains detailed information on surveyor’s measurements and coordinates; descriptions of the terrain, and insight into frontier Pennsylvania and the interaction between the English settlers, militias and the native people on the Schuylkill and Susquehanna rivers of colonial Pennsylvania.

Scope and Contents
The collection contains estimates, proposals and designs for bridge projects in 19 New York towns, mostly in the vicinity of Syracuse, New York. The two folio volumes [one large, one smaller] are engineer’s bridge design notebooks most likely compiled in Syracuse, New York, c. 1871-1884 where the Howard Soule Jr. had his association; they consist of pencil sketches, entry notes and calculations with illustrations, estimates and costs. This folio itemizes an interesting view into
the northwestward expansion of the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in an era of growth in the
mid-19th century. What is shown by the surveying entries is the incorporation, by the 1854 Act
