Asa and Sarah Packer Golden Wedding Anniversary Album, January 23, 1878

Abstract

This is one of the few artifacts that exist at Lehigh of Asa Packer, Lehigh University’s founder. The album is a fabulous record of who was who during the Packer Family’s lifetime. The album reflects the importance and wealth that Asa and Sarah Packer had acquired during their life being with virtually only their own fortitude, hard work, and entrepreneurial endeavor.

Asa Packer Graphic Design Book Project

Abstract

Asa Packer books designed and constructed by Lehigh University students as class projects called “Asa Packer Book Project” for their Graphic Design III taught by Professor Thom Lepley in the Spring of 2003-2004 and Fall of 2004-2005 academic years. Through this graphic design project, the students were to research and study artifacts and evidence of Asa Packer’s lifespan and then tell a unique story in a hand-bound artist book that would define Asa Packer and his legacy.

Automobile Road Maps of Europe and North America

Abstract

Collection composed primarily of Alphonse Taride maps for regions of France circa 1920s and a few other vintage maps: Brentano's British Isles, Rand McNally's New England: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Canadian Maritime Provinces and Germany's Schwartzwald region. The maps reflect the era of the establishment of the automobile as a cultural symbol of freedom of the road and travel between the two World Wars.

Beamish-Sinclair Tanganyika Papers 1930-1932

Abstract This is an interesting collection of correspondence expounding the British political and economic attitudes toward its African colonies in the early 1930s through the opinions expressed by H. H. Beamish to his various correspondents. The Sinclair family was quite prominent in Tanganyika at the time and wanted a close alliance with Kenya in promoting the coffee trade and in dealing with the “native question in East Africa.” Both Tanganyika and Kenya as British colonies shared the coffee...
