This collection reflects steel making practice at the turn of the twentieth century particularly the reuse of by-products of steel manufacture. It appears that the European steel manufacture was interested in economical reuse of the by-products. This manuscript is a report based on personal observations regarding a variation of the open-hearth furnace manufacture of steel castings first installed in Switzerland in the early 20th century and later installed in the United States.
