This is one of the few artifacts that exist at Lehigh of Asa Packer, Lehigh University’s founder. The album is a fabulous record of who was who during the Packer Family’s lifetime. The album reflects the importance and wealth that Asa and Sarah Packer had acquired during their life being with virtually only their own fortitude, hard work, and entrepreneurial endeavor.
Asa Packer books designed and constructed by Lehigh University students as class projects called “Asa Packer Book Project” for their Graphic Design III taught by Professor Thom Lepley in the Spring of 2003-2004 and Fall of 2004-2005 academic years. Through this graphic design project, the students were to research and study artifacts and evidence of Asa Packer’s lifespan and then tell a unique story in a hand-bound artist book that would define Asa Packer and his legacy.
Typescripts of speeches, many with additional penciled-in notes, given by Dr. Drinker as president of Lehigh University, as president of the American Forestry Association, and as a supporter of war preparedness and the Student Army Training Corps movement.
