Collection contains memorabilia from Professor Jonathan Elkus during his tenure (1957-1973) at Lehigh University in the Music Department as professor and director of the University’s Marching 97 Band. The collection contains correspondence, concert programs, music scores, newspaper clippings of critical reviews and photographs.
Contains some manuscripts and published scores of music (and programs) of compositions performed at Lehigh during the 1960s and early 1970s by Professor Jonathan Elkus and his instrumental groups. Many of the items were autographed by the composers to Dr. Elkus, and all were donated by him to Lehigh.
This collection includes famous composers and musicians autographs and related invoices of purchases addressed to Harold Pursel and family. An interesting view into a family hobby of collecting autographs from famous Nineteenth and early Twentieth Century musicians.
