1884 February 3 Dick to Will (brother) re: death of Harry E. Packer day off from teaching at Lehigh, Dick will attend funeral as a faculty member as he went to Asa Packer funeral, says both sons dead now and they greatly shortened their lives by hard drinking – too much money was really their ruin, skated to Allentown, sleighing unbroken, tramped to see ruins of dynamite factory. 1895 June 20 Mansfield Merriman (Bethlehem) to Tucker re: Prof. Doolittle’s resignation and desire to replace him with a man who is primarily an astronomer and secondarily a mathematician. Merriman says that Tucker would be very favorably received and asks if he can present his name to the Trustees. “It would be a matter of pride with me to see this place filled by a member of my first class at Lehigh” 1900 June 14 J. J. See (U.S. Naval Observatory) to Tucker thanks and congratulations of so solid and high class a piece of work published in Vol. IV Lick Publications. (2 photocopies) 1900 June 21 Edward S. Holden (New York and Stockbridge, Mass.) to Tucker re: splendid Volume IV of the L.O. Publications with greatest pleasure & admiration. “The thing you set out to do has been done in the most perfect manner and the volume is a great credit to you and to the Observatory.” 1908 March 14 H. S. Drinker (President, Lehigh University) to Tucker (Lick Observatory) re: welcomed letter coming East in May sailing for South America in August. Drinker reports working hard over Charley Taylor’s Alumni Endowment Fund, in calling attention of Mr. Carnegie to Lehigh and moving him to donate splendid Dormitory. Cunningham “79 wrote that he hope to have Sargent, yourself and himself represent the Class of ’79 in the Fund. 1908 August 6 from Henry S. Drinker to R.H. Tucker (Dudley Observatory) re: the possibility of Tucker’s nephew attending Lehigh. (typed letter) 1912 April 6 from Henry S. Drinker to R.H. Tucker (Lick Observatory) re: published pamphlet about San Luis Observatory of the Carnegie Institution by Tucker noting a reproduction of the Medal (July issue of the Bulletin of the Pan-American Union) which Drinker has forwarded to the Library and Prof. Thornburg and Prof. Ogburn as representing Astronomical work at LU. Drinker is astonished as to what Tucker accomplished in South America. (typed) 1914 May 7 from Henry S. Drinker to Tucker re: wedding notice and congratulations and best wishes for as happy a married life as he and Mrs. Drinker had. (handwritten letter) 1915 October 28 from H.S. Drinker to R.H. Tucker (Lick Observatory) re: invitation to Drinker to visit Lick while Drinker is on West Coast Drinker has to decline as he is so busy with Forestry Association Meeting, reports Doolittle called on him and told him of his visit to Tucker, Drinker says that he was impressed and touched with the large group of Lehigh men who greeted him in San Francisco.
