Scope and Contents
A.J. Farabaugh’s Report of European Practice of the use of Coke Oven Gas is the title on the outer cover of the Bethlehem Steel Company report cover. The inner title page is typed “A.J. Farabaugh’s Trip to Europe with Mr. von Philp, particularly for investigation of the uses of coke over gas for metallurgical purposes and with special reference to its use in Open Hearth Work. The first page is dated April 4, 1910 with a heading of Suggestions for a trip to Germany which consists of two typed pages mentioning the intended facilities to visit. The next pages are headed South Bethlehem, Pa. June 20th, 1910 ORDER OF REPORT which included Dates (departed April 4 and returned June 15) and Places visited ( among the many places visited were Krupp in Essen and Reinhausen, Osnebruck, Luxemburg, Naples, Brussels, Holland, Manchester, Berlin, and Russia). Other items listed: Coke Oven Gas as used in European Plants, Blast Furnace Plants, etc. This report consists of 50 typed tissue paper pages interspersed with five blueprints of steel plant operations. At the top margin of this report are two punched holes.
