Albert Wayne Chenoweth Scrapbook, 1911-1987
Scope and Contents
The collection contains three folders of approximately 55 newspaper articles, 16 pieces of correspondence, 106 photographs and a scrapbook marked EPMI of high school, hometown and college memorabilia, four booklets, one Hall Football Hall of Fame certificate, a x-ray and a poem about Mr. Chenoweth. The 106 photographs are of football days, military service, retirement party recollections. Filed separately is a map of the French Front World War I as notated by A.W. Chenoweth and an extreme large photograph of the 1937 Reunion.

Biographical / Historical
Albert Wayne Chenoweth was born in 1892 in Nacoma, Texas. He attended high school at the El Paso Military Institute, now Texas Western, a branch of the University of Texas. One of his classmates was Jim Keady, a younger brother of Tom Keady, a Lehigh coach who encouraged him to come to Lehigh University where he became a member of the Class of 1917. At Lehigh, he played baseball and football but concentrated on football and became lead quarterback on the Lehigh football team. He played in a game during Jim Thorpe’s senior year with the Carlisle Indians. He remained in Bethlehem during his lifetime following Lehigh. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He returned to work for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He was superintendent of the Nos. 2 and 3 mills in the Alloy and Tool Steel division. He retired in 1959. He was married twice. His first wife was Georgine B. Wolle Chenoweth of the Moravian Wolle Family and his surviving spouse was Mary Cioffi Chenoweth. He died in April 1987.

Abstract
This scrapbook of Albert W. Chenoweth, Lehigh Class of 1917, contains material documenting his high school and Lehigh athletic career, and his professional career at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Anyone interested in Lehigh football history will enjoy perusing this collection which contains many interesting articles about Lehigh football greats.
