Biographical / Historical

During the 1800’s, Mexico was in a state of disarray. The beginning of the 1800’s showcased South American resentment of the colonial system. Eventually wars of independence all throughout South America erupted and Mexican independence was established from Spain in 1822. Following Mexican independence, a disillusionment of the liberal mindset that had fueled the independence movement resulted in unstable regimes. The instability of the Mexican government allowed numerous caudillos (prominent, charismatic, and wealthy landowner) to take control over Mexico. During this time period, Mexico had numerous presidents and changed forms of government multiple times, depending upon which caudillo was in charge and whether liberals or conservatives were in control of the political atmosphere.
