Scope and Contents

The material in this collection includes some typescripts, much correspondence regarding the planning, development, publication and marketing of various publications, copies of almost 1000 book reviews done for McGraw Hill, and material relating to speeches and presentations he has made. Also included is a small amount of personal correspondence, royalty statements from McGraw Hill, a family genealogy, and some Lehigh memorabilia.

Biographical / Historical

Lester R. Bittel, b. 1918, graduated from Lehigh University in 1940 with a degree in industrial engineering. He worked in industry, as an editor for McGraw-Hill and others, and as professor of management at James Madison University. He is the author of over 50 works on management.

Manuscripts, typescripts, correspondence, etc. relating to Bittel's publications, chiefly 1979-present. Also includes material relating to National Survey of Supervisory Management Practices, evaluative reviews prepared by Bittel from 1954-1988 for McGraw-Hill, copies of journal articles, copies of speeches, royalty statements, and a small amount of personal material. Other names associated with the collection (some as co-authors) include Muriel Albers Bittel, Ronald S. Burke, Joseph Prokopenko, Jackson E. Ramsey, R. Lawrence LaForge, Mary LaForge, Ross H.
