Biographical / Historical

"Carl H. Bechhoefer, a civil engineer, and a graduate from Leigh University in 1909. Worked on the railroad tunnels (during the summers) that were never completed and later became the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the first part Harrisburg to Pittsburgh opened around 1939.

Well known civil engineer and native of Everett, Bedford county, who was connected with the War Department, died this moring at 3:45 o'clock in the Altoona Hospital of a blood clot after a hernia operation on April 10.

Mr Bechhoefer had been located in Florida for some time and came to retire in Hollidaysburg last week where his mother resided with his sister Mrs. John S. Young. He was the son of Max and Mary E. (Smith) Bechhoefer and was born on Nov. 11, 1883. He was educated in the Everett schools and entered Lehigh University where he was a graduate with the degree of civil engineer. He had been associated with the War Department engineers for the past 14 years. He was a member of the Everett Evangelical and Reformed church, Everett Lodge #524, Free and Accepted Masons, and of the King Cyrus chapter #123 Royal Arch Masons of Detroit, Mich.
