James D. Mack Lehigh University Library Documents

Abstract James D. Mack was Lehigh University Librarian from 1948(?) to 1976. Mr. Mack graduated from Lehigh Class of 1938. He was hired by University Librarian Howard S. Leach in 1946 as his assistant. Leach died two years later. In the early 1960’s Mack had his title changed to Library Director. He retired in 1976 and became Rare Book Curator. James Decker Mack and the Writing of Matthew Flinders, 1774-1814

Abstract

The material includes correspondence re the development and publication of Mack's book Matthew Flinders, 1774-1814. Melbourne: Nelson (Australia), 1966. It includes files on the publisher, Thomas Nelson & Sons, Ltd.; the American Philosophical Society, who gave Mack a grant to do research; & Sir Gavin de Beer-who arranged the grant. Also included are Mack's note cards for the book, arranged by date (1801-1814).
