handwritten letter mentions Delaware calling Hertzog to give a hand as
“any settlement of the colour question in the E. African colonies must
necessarily interest S. Africa.” Stephens also comments “As I always
anticipated if the Home Government put too much on the Europeans of
Kenya and Tanganyika, S. Africa will make common cause with the latter.”

that J (Jerome de la Mothe) is off to Canada. Beamish mentions that he is
lobbying all the important people and the House of Commons gave him a
dinner party where he met Ormsly Gore discussed many things not wise to mention in letter but that the campaign to squash the Paramountcy of Native question is optimistic. The closer union matter is parochial to the
